A self-guided tour through the mysterious workings of our mouths, our ears and our brains
and how our senses work together to shape how we experience the world.

This Crash Course is a set of materials that allows anyone with an interest in language to take a self-guided tour through the mysterious workings of our mouths, our ears and our brains. It gives a basic grounding in articulatory phonetics, acoustics, perception science, phonology, sensory processing, and links between the senses. It explores how our brain connects up the sensory signals that contribute to our amazing abilities to use language.

Content. The Crash Course is based around YouTube videos, podcasts, Web Apps and Phone Apps, and other content that is accessible for free. It is designed to be lighter, and more fun than a textbook, but it also contains some very detailed technical information and challenging activities.

Structure. The Crash Course has 6 Sessions, each of which has 3-5 hours of content, broken into two parts. Each part might include reading/viewing/listening and answering a set of questions at the end, or the whole part might consist of activities and exercises. Each of the sessions is available separately (for use as an individual lesson/resource), and combined together in a Compilation.
