LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays focuses on energy efficiency and high quality in lighting and displays.Efficiency in artificial lighting is vitally important because today lighting is an integral part of our society. Today lighting accounts for about 19 per cent of total electricity generation in the world. The centre will investigate and exploit the science and technology of excitonics to make it possible to achieve ultra-efficiency in energy transfer to revolutionise lighting and displays. As high-efficiency lighting is vital to sustainable growth in countries worldwide, the science and technology of excitonics that make this possible will lead to tremendous economic and societal benefits.
