Established in 2005, the Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP) has since experienced a rapid growth to become a world-class centre for research and education in physics with over 30 faculty members, 12 support staff, 60 research staff, and 100 graduate and 320 undergraduate students. I would like to thank Professor Alfred Huan Cheng Hon for his visionary leadership as the founding Head of Division, without whom these achievements would not have been possible. Our aim is to build a vibrant community of physicists, where faculty and students are partners in a mutually enriching education process, immersed in learning and discovery. The direct Honours academic programme that we have devised draws from the strong points in several top universities in the US and Europe. It is targeted at providing our undergraduates with a solid foundation for understanding physical phenomena and augmented by optional courses that highlight the frontiers of physics research and their key thrusts in advancing technology.
